As my Mother, Hethert-Nut, is Hethert-as-Nut, cow-as-sky, I feel this is particularly appropriate to continue my research into the Book of the Celestial Cow.<\/p>\n<p>Snippets obtained from the links found <a href=\"http:\/\/sethy1.free.fr\/vache.html#textes\">here<\/a>. I am fairly sure the person who translated these into English and German was originally a francophone, because some of the English really doesn&#8217;t match the French. When I have time, I&#8217;m going to go back through and see if I can&#8217;t reckon some slightly more accurate translations. Thank Netjer I can still read French pretty well. For now, however, the bits involving (Hethert-)Nut:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Be not disappointed, be not weary.<br \/>\nYou have power over all You wish.&#8221;<br \/>\nThen said the majesty of Re<br \/>\nto the majesty of Nun:<br \/>\n&#8220;My limbs are feeble as in primeval times,<br \/>\nI will not return until another cycle overtakes Me.&#8221;<br \/>\nThen the majesty of Nun said:<br \/>\n&#8220;My son Shu!<br \/>\nLet Your eye look upon Your father, and protect Him.<br \/>\nMy daughter Nut,<br \/>\nplace Him on Your back!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Nut became a cow,<br \/>\nand the majesty of Re was on Her back.<\/p>\n<p>Men were astonished when,<br \/>\nfrom the location to which they had fled,<br \/>\nthey saw Him on the back of the cow.<\/p>\n<p>His majesty proceeded to His palace<br \/>\non the back of this cow,<br \/>\nand He was together with the gods.<\/p>\n<p>Then this god said to Nut:<br \/>\n&#8220;I placed myself on Your back to be elevated, what then?&#8221;<br \/>\nSo said He, and Nut<br \/>\nbecame the sky.<br \/>\nThe majesty of this god begged:<br \/>\n&#8220;Be far from them and elevate Me, that I may see them.&#8221;<br \/>\nAnd the On High came into being.<br \/>\nThen the majesty of this god<br \/>\nlooked into Her,<br \/>\nand She said: &#8220;Make Me into a multitude!&#8221; And stars came into being.<\/p>\n<p>Then Nut began to shake, owing to the height.<br \/>\nAnd the majesty of Re said:<br \/>\n&#8220;Had I only the Heh gods to support Her!&#8221; And then the Heh gods came into being.<br \/>\nThen the majesty of Re said:<br \/>\n&#8220;My son Shu,<br \/>\nplace Yourself under My daughter Nut<br \/>\nand guard for Me the four Heh gods of the east and the four Heh gods of the west<br \/>\nwho live in twilight.<br \/>\nPlace Her on your head and keep Her.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><i>Full unedited text of the Book of the Celestial Cow, which I have not proofread or finished translate-tweaking:<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Then it became to pass that the majesty of Re, he who created himself,<br \/>\nhaving been king<br \/>\nof men as well as of gods;<br \/>\nAs to his majesty, let him live, be safe and in good health, he had grown old, his bones became like silver,<br \/>\nhis flesh like gold,<br \/>\nhis hair like real lapis lazuli.<br \/>\nNow his majesty had learned about the plans<br \/>\nwhich men were devising against him;<br \/>\nThen his majesty, let him live, be safe and in good health, said to those who were in his following:<br \/>\n&#8220;Call to me my Eye,<br \/>\nShu, Tefnut,<br \/>\nGeb, and Nut,<br \/>\ntogether with the fathers and mothers who<br \/>\nwere with me when I was in the nun,<br \/>\nas well as the god of the nun. Let him bring his attendants with him.<br \/>\nBut bring them secretly,<br \/>\nlest men see, and their hearts escape.<br \/>\nCome with them to the Great Palace, let them confess their wicked plans, so<br \/>\nthat I may go into the Watery Abyss<br \/>\nto the place from which I came into being.&#8221;<br \/>\nThese gods were brought,<br \/>\nand these gods were standing on both sides<br \/>\nwith heads inclined toward the earth before his majesty,<br \/>\nin order that he might speak his words in front of the father of the eldest gods<br \/>\nwho created men and is king of the common people.<br \/>\nThen they said before his majesty:<br \/>\n&#8220;Speak to us so that we may hear!&#8221;<br \/>\nThen Re spoke to Nun:<br \/>\n&#8220;O Eldest One out of whom I came into being,<br \/>\nand you primeval gods!<br \/>\nBehold, men who came into being from my Eye devise plans against me.<br \/>\nTell me what would you do about it.<br \/>\nBehold, I seek not to kill them before having heard what you will say.&#8221;<br \/>\nThen spoke the majesty of Nun:<br \/>\n&#8220;My son Re,<br \/>\ngod greater than he who created thee,<br \/>\nolder than he who made thee,<br \/>\nbe seated on thy throne! Great is the fear before thee<br \/>\nwhen thy Eye comes out against those who scheme against thee!&#8221;<br \/>\nThen the majesty of Re said:<br \/>\n&#8220;Behold, they have escaped into the desert land,<br \/>\ntheir hearts being afraid that I speak to them.&#8221;<br \/>\nThen they said before his majesty:<br \/>\n&#8220;May thy Eye go out and catch for thee<br \/>\nthose who conspire (against thee).<br \/>\nThere is no Eye more fit to strike them for thee.<br \/>\nLet it come down as Hethert!&#8221;<br \/>\nThen this goddess came back after having killed men in the desert land.<br \/>\nThen the majesty of this god said:<br \/>\n&#8220;Welcome in peace, O Hethert,<br \/>\nThou hast accomplished (that) for which I came.&#8221;<br \/>\nThen this goddess said: &#8220;As true as thou livest,<br \/>\nI overpowered men;<br \/>\nit was sweet for my heart.&#8221;<br \/>\nThen the majesty of this god said:<br \/>\n&#8220;I shall have power over them as king by diminishing their number.&#8221;<br \/>\nThat is how the Powerful One (Sekhmet) came into being, the Confused One in the night,<br \/>\nto wade in their blood<br \/>\nas far as Heracleopolis.<\/p>\n<p>Then Re said: &#8220;Call to me (my) messengers,<br \/>\nwho hurry<br \/>\nand run like the shadow of a body.&#8221;<br \/>\nAnd these messengers were brought at once.<br \/>\nThen the majesty of this god said:<br \/>\n&#8220;Let them run to Elephantine<br \/>\nand bring me a large quantity of red ocher.&#8221;<br \/>\nThen this red ocher was brought to him,<br \/>\nand the majesty of this god ordered<br \/>\nthe Tufted One, He of Heliopolis, to squeeze this red ocher.<br \/>\nThen the slave girls brewed beer out of oats,<br \/>\nand this red ocher was poured into this beer,<br \/>\nand it looked like the blood of men,<br \/>\nand made 7000 jars.<br \/>\nThen the majesty of Re, King of Upper and Lower Egypt, went out<br \/>\nwith these gods to see this beer.<br \/>\nAnd when the earth was light for the killing of men by this goddess,<br \/>\nin the day when they went South,<br \/>\nthe majesty of Re said:<br \/>\n&#8220;It is good indeed, I shall protect men from her!&#8221;<br \/>\nRe said: &#8220;Carry it<br \/>\nto the place where she intends to kill men.&#8221;<br \/>\nThe majesty of Re, King of Upper and Lower Egypt, arose early<br \/>\nwhen it was still night in order to let this sleeping draught be poured out.<br \/>\nAnd the fields were covered three palms high<br \/>\naccording to the wish of the majesty of this god.<br \/>\nWhen the goddess came in the morning,<br \/>\nshe found the land inundated<br \/>\nand her face looked beautiful in the beer. Then she drank,<br \/>\nand it was pleasant for her heart.<br \/>\nShe became drunk and failed to recognize men.<br \/>\nThe majesty of Re said to this goddess:<br \/>\n&#8220;Welcome in peace, O Beautiful One!&#8221;<br \/>\nAnd the beautiful ones came into being in the city of Yamit.<br \/>\nThe majesty of Re said to this goddess:<br \/>\n&#8220;Let there be made for her intoxicating drinks on feasts of the year,<br \/>\nand let this be entrusted to my servants.&#8221;<br \/>\nAnd since the first day the custom came into being that all people entrust to the servants the preparation of intoxicating drinks<br \/>\non the Feast of Hethert,<br \/>\nand for all the men after this first day.<br \/>\nThen the majesty of Re said to this goddess:<br \/>\n&#8220;Is there a burning pain of sickness?&#8221;<br \/>\nAnd the period of sickness came into being.<br \/>\nThen the majesty of Re said: &#8220;As true as I live,<br \/>\nmy heart is weary to remain with them.<br \/>\nI keep on killing them to the last one &#8211; the small remainder is not my gift!&#8221;<br \/>\nThe gods who were in his following said:<br \/>\n&#8220;Be not disappointed, be not weary.<br \/>\nThou hast power over all thou wishest.&#8221;<br \/>\nThen said the majesty of this god<br \/>\nto the majesty of Nun:<br \/>\n&#8220;My limbs are feeble as in primeval times,<br \/>\nI will not return until another cycle overtakes me.&#8221;<br \/>\nThen the majesty of Nun said:<br \/>\n&#8220;My son Shu!<br \/>\nLet thine eye (look upon thy) father, and protect him.<br \/>\nMy daughter Nut,<br \/>\nplace him (on thy back)!&#8221;<br \/>\nThen Nut said: &#8220;How is that,<br \/>\nmy father Nun?&#8221;<br \/>\nSo Nut said in &#8230; the nun.<br \/>\nNut became (a cow),<br \/>\nand the majesty of Re was on her back.<\/p>\n<p>Men were (astonished when) &#8230;<br \/>\nfrom the location to which they fled<br \/>\nthey saw him on the back of the cow.<br \/>\nThen these men spoke to him:<br \/>\n&#8220;We will overthrow thine enemies<br \/>\nwho devise plots to do this.&#8221;<br \/>\nHis majesty proceeded to his palace<br \/>\non the back of this cow,<br \/>\nand he was together with the gods. And earth was in darkness.<br \/>\nWhen it dawned in the morning,<br \/>\nthese men came out with their bows<br \/>\nand shot (arrows) against the enemies.<br \/>\nThe majesty of this god said:<br \/>\n&#8220;Beware and take care of the slaughter,<br \/>\nthe massacre is far off.&#8221;<br \/>\nThen this massacre (came into being) among men.<br \/>\nThen this god said to Nut:<br \/>\n&#8220;I placed myself on thy back to be elevated, what then?&#8221;<br \/>\nSo said he, and Nut<br \/>\nbecame the sky.<br \/>\nThe majesty of this god begged:<br \/>\n&#8220;Be far from them and elevate me, that I may see (them).&#8221;<br \/>\nAnd the On High came into being.<br \/>\nThen the majesty of this god<br \/>\nlooked into her,<br \/>\nand she said: &#8220;Make me into a multitude!&#8221; And (stars) came into being.<br \/>\nThe majesty of this god, let him live, be safe and in good health, said:<br \/>\n&#8220;Peaceful is the field here!&#8221; And the Field of Peace came into being.<br \/>\n&#8220;Oh, I shall plant green herbs in it!&#8221; And these Yaru fields came into being.<br \/>\n&#8220;I shall provide it with everything.&#8221;<br \/>\nAnd these Ihih stars (came into being).<br \/>\nThen Nut began to shake, owing to the height.<br \/>\nAnd the majesty of Re said:<br \/>\n&#8220;Had I only the Heh gods to support her!&#8221; And then the Heh gods came into being.<br \/>\nThen the majesty of Re said:<br \/>\n&#8220;My son Shu,<br \/>\nplace yourself under my daughter Nut<br \/>\nand guard for me the four Heh gods of the east and the four Heh gods of the west<br \/>\nwho live in twilight.<br \/>\nPlace her on thy head and keep her.&#8221;<br \/>\nAnd it came to pass that a nurse is given to a son or daughter<br \/>\nand that a father places his son on his head.<br \/>\nThis spell is to be recited over a cow<br \/>\nwith the Heh gods (represented) on her chest,<br \/>\nand with the Heh gods who are behind her.<br \/>\nHer four legs are painted (as well as)<br \/>\nnine stars on her belly.<br \/>\nHer tail hangs behind her back legs.<br \/>\nShu is under her belly,<br \/>\npainted in yellow color.<br \/>\nHis arms support these stars,<br \/>\nand his name is placed between them<\/p>\n<p>which says &#8220;Shu is himself.&#8221;<br \/>\nThe barge with the rudder and the shrine which is in it,<br \/>\nwith the disk on it, and Re inside it,<br \/>\nare in front of Shu, close to his hand.<br \/>\nAccording to others, behind him, close to his hand.<br \/>\nHer two udders are placed in the middle of her left leg,<br \/>\none half of them is painted in the middle of the leg<br \/>\nwith words written on the outside:<br \/>\n&#8220;I am myself, I do not permit them to act.&#8221;<br \/>\nWhat is written under the barque, in front:<br \/>\n&#8220;Be not weary, my son&#8221; &#8211; this is reversed writing,<br \/>\nwith words: &#8220;Your state is like everlasting life.&#8221;<br \/>\nWith words: &#8220;Thy son is in me,<br \/>\nlet life, stability, and health be for thy nose!&#8221;<br \/>\nWhat is written behind Shu, close by his arm: &#8220;Guard them.&#8221;<br \/>\nWhat is written behind him, behind his back, in reversed writing:<br \/>\n&#8220;Ma&#8217;at, I am each day, assuredly.&#8221;<br \/>\nWhat is written under the arm of the figure<br \/>\nwhich is below her left leg, behind her: &#8220;All things are sealed up.&#8221;<br \/>\nWhat is written over his head, below the hind part of the cow,<br \/>\non her two legs: &#8220;Release is possible.&#8221;<br \/>\nWhat is written behind the two figures, on her two legs, over their heads:<br \/>\n&#8220;Ancient One,<br \/>\npraise be given to him when he enters.&#8221;<br \/>\nWhat is over the head, over the two figures which are between her two hind legs:<br \/>\n&#8220;He who adores his mother, the One Who Hears, Scepter of the Sky.&#8221;<br \/>\nThen the majesty of this god said to Thoth:<br \/>\n&#8220;Call to me the majesty of Geb.&#8221;<br \/>\nSaying &#8220;Come, hurry at once.&#8221;<br \/>\nThen the majesty of Geb came.<br \/>\nThe majesty of this god said:<br \/>\n&#8220;Take heed of the serpents which are within you!<br \/>\nBehold, they fear me in my form, but you know their use.<br \/>\nGo then to this place<br \/>\nin which thy father Nun is.<br \/>\nTell him he should keep guard over the serpents in the earth and in the water.<br \/>\nWrite it down as well, and betake thyself to every spot<br \/>\nwhere thy serpents are,<br \/>\nand say, Beware you spoil anything!<br \/>\nThey should know that I am here, for behold, I rise for them as well!<br \/>\nBehold, their property will be<br \/>\nin this land forever.<br \/>\nBeware also of these magical spells, which their mouths know,<br \/>\nfor the god Heka himself<br \/>\nis therein, as indeed the god Sia is with thee.<br \/>\nIt will not happen, that being as great as I am, I shall have to keep guard over them as before.<br \/>\nI hand them therefore to thy son Wesir<br \/>\nthat he may keep guard over their children, and that the hearts of their sires be made to forget.<br \/>\nIt is useful what they do out of their love<br \/>\nfor the whole land with their magic which is in their bellies.&#8221;<br \/>\nThen the majesty of Re said:<br \/>\n&#8220;Call then Djehuty to me.&#8221;<br \/>\nAnd he was brought at once.<\/p>\n<p>Then the majesty of Re said to Djehuty:<br \/>\n&#8220;Behold, I am here<br \/>\nin heaven, in my place.<br \/>\nAs I am going to give light and brilliance<br \/>\nin the Netherworld, as well as on the Island of Baba(t),<br \/>\nBe a scribe here, have power over those who are here,<br \/>\nthose whom we created and those who rebelled.<br \/>\nIt is thou who shalt repulse the followers of this Angry One.<br \/>\nThou shalt be in my place, my vicar.<br \/>\nIt will be said of thee: Djehuty, the vicar of Re.<br \/>\nAnd I shall make thee send out those who are greater than thee.&#8221; And this Ibis of Djehuty came into being.<br \/>\n&#8220;And I will cause thee to stretch thy arm in the presence of the primeval gods, who are greater than thee.<br \/>\nMy speech is good if thou actest so.&#8221;<br \/>\nAnd the ibis of Djehuty came into being.<br \/>\n&#8220;And I will cause thee to encompass the two heavens with thy beauty and with thy light.&#8221;<br \/>\nAnd the moon of Djehuty came into being.<br \/>\n&#8220;And I will let thee go around the Hanebu.&#8221; And this baboon of Djehuty<br \/>\ncame into being and became the vizier.<br \/>\n&#8220;Thou shalt be my vicar<br \/>\nand when people see thee, their faces will be open through thee,<br \/>\n(they will see in the dark) and they will praise god for thee.&#8221;<br \/>\nIf a man pronounces this spell over himself<br \/>\nhe should be anointed with oil and unguent,<br \/>\nthe censer being in his hands with incense.<br \/>\nNatron must be behind his ears,<br \/>\nbed-natron must be in his mouth,<br \/>\ndressed in two new garments,<br \/>\nhaving washed himself in inundation water,<br \/>\nshod in white sandals,<br \/>\nand the figure of Ma&#8217;at being painted on his tongue<br \/>\nin green painter&#8217;s colors.<br \/>\nIf Djehuty intends<\/p>\n<p>to read this for Re,<br \/>\nhe should purify himself with a purification of nine days.<br \/>\nServants (of the god) and men should do the same.<br \/>\nIf one recites this spell, he will take the forms mentioned in this book,<br \/>\nhe will pass his life in the midst of common folk.<br \/>\nHe should have his two eyes, all members, and his footsteps should not go wrong,<br \/>\nso that people say about him:<br \/>\n&#8220;He is like Re on the day of his birth.&#8221;<br \/>\nHe should not be a child of his possessions nor should his doorway be blocked.<br \/>\nThis is exceedingly good, a million times so!<br \/>\nNun was embraced by the Eldest God himself,<br \/>\nwho said to the gods who came out (with him) of the Western Sky:<br \/>\n&#8220;Let praises be given to the Eldest God! As I came into being  through him,<br \/>\nI who created the sky, who established (earth) to let the souls of the gods reside in it.<br \/>\nI will be together with them in all eternity. The years are born<br \/>\nbut this Magic is my soul, it is greater than they.<br \/>\nThis soul of Shu is Khnum.<br \/>\nThis soul of eternity is &#8230;<br \/>\nThis soul of Darkness is the Night.<br \/>\nThis soul of Nun is Re.<br \/>\nThis soul of Wesir is the Ram of Mendes.<br \/>\nThese souls of Sobek are the crocodiles.<br \/>\nWhile the souls of every god, of every goddess, are in the snakes,<br \/>\nthe soul of Apophis is in the Eastern Mountain,<br \/>\nwhile the soul of Re is all over the earth.<br \/>\nIf a man pronounces (this spell), he should make a magical protection, saying:<br \/>\n&#8220;I am this Pure Magic which is in the mouth and in the body of Re.<br \/>\nO gods, you who are far from me,<br \/>\nI am Re the Luminous One!&#8221;<br \/>\nThou shouldst say,<br \/>\nwhen thou comest out at night, and darkness is over thee:<br \/>\n&#8220;Thou art overthrown, enemy of Re!<br \/>\nI am his soul &#8211; Pure Magic!<br \/>\nO lord of eternity who created everlastingness,<br \/>\nwho diminished the years of the gods. When Re comes down,<br \/>\nLord of his godliness, ruler who created his own creator,<br \/>\nbeloved one of the father of the gods.&#8221;<br \/>\nA magician, his head being purified,<br \/>\nshould make a female figure standing by his south side.<br \/>\nHe should represent on her a goddess, and in the middle of her<br \/>\na snake standing erect on its tail,<br \/>\nher hand being placed on its body<br \/>\nwhile its tail is on the ground.<br \/>\nThoth should adore him (the magician),<br \/>\nall the dignity of heaven being on him<br \/>\nwhile Shu stretches him arms toward it. (He should recite:)<br \/>\n&#8220;I am safe from these great and mighty gods,<br \/>\nwho sit in the eastern part of heaven,<br \/>\nwho guard the sky, who guard the earth, the mysterious functionaries.&#8221;<br \/>\nThen, they shall say: &#8220;Great is he who comes out to see the Watery Abyss.&#8221;<br \/>\nWords to be spoken by a priest on the first and on the fifteenth of the month, and on every day likewise,<br \/>\naccording to these ancient rules.<br \/>\nHe who pronounces this spell shall live in the Necropolis,<br \/>\nfear before him shall be greater than before those who are on earth.<br \/>\nIf they pronounce they names<br \/>\nEternity and Everlastingness,<br \/>\nlet them say: &#8220;God.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Let them say: &#8220;He reached us here on this way.<br \/>\nI know the name of this god, it is<br \/>\nHe who is on his lake.<br \/>\nI am he to whom an amulet is attached at night.<br \/>\nI am Re amidst his Ennead<br \/>\nand his surroundings made of charms.<br \/>\nI pass by being complete.<br \/>\nI belong to the flame, which is this soul of fire.&#8221;<br \/>\nHe will have no adversaries among men,<br \/>\namong gods, among spirits, among the dead,<br \/>\nin everything, in the whole of this land.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today, in the Kemetic calendar, is the Establishment of the Celestial Cow.
