Do not take this as a rock-solid encyclopedic entry at any point. :)<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Hail Serqet, Our Lady of Scorpions!<\/p>\n<h3>attributes<\/h3>\n<p>&#8211; scorpions<br \/>\n&#8212; an unverified source claims She was originally associated with the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nepidae\" target=\"_blank\">water-scorpion<\/a>, not a &#8220;true&#8221; scorpion, and that visual similarity linked Her with &#8220;true&#8221; scorpions<br \/>\n&#8212;&#8212; may be considered shown with\/as the water-scorpion as a benevolent form of the &#8220;true&#8221; scorpion<br \/>\n&#8211; protection<br \/>\n&#8212; of children<br \/>\n&#8212; of pregnant women<br \/>\n&#8212;&#8212; has assisted in a few (usually royal) births<br \/>\n&#8212; of the king<br \/>\n&#8212;&#8212; especially the scorpion kings :D<br \/>\n&#8212; of innocents<br \/>\n&#8212; against scorpions<br \/>\n&#8212; against snakes and reptiles<br \/>\n&#8212; against poisons\/venom in general<br \/>\n&#8212; against Ap-p (Apophis)<br \/>\n&#8212;&#8212; shown as guarding him when he was captured<br \/>\n&#8212; against a dangerous twist in a pathway in the afterlife<br \/>\n&#8212; of the dead (due to Her association with fluids causing stiffening)<br \/>\n&#8212; of the canopic jar containing the intestines, which was associated with poison<br \/>\n&#8212; of the tents of embalmers<br \/>\n&#8211; punishment of wrongdoers\/criminals\/etc<br \/>\n&#8212; fights Ap-p from Ra&#8217;s night-barque<br \/>\n&#8212; could be the Eye of Ra<br \/>\n&#8212;&#8212; the heat of the sun<br \/>\n&#8211; healing<br \/>\n&#8212; from poison<br \/>\n&#8212; from addiction (modern association)<br \/>\n&#8212; from emotional\/mental trauma (modern association)<br \/>\n&#8212; from drug abuse (modern association)<br \/>\n&#8212; patron of doctors (who were also magicians) who specialized in poisons<br \/>\n&#8212;&#8212; magic<br \/>\n&#8211; the direction west (associated with death and rebirth, as well as the canopic jar She guards)<\/p>\n<h3>forms<\/h3>\n<p>&#8211; a scorpion<br \/>\n&#8212; personal inference: the deathstalker scorpion is one of the most deadly scorpions in Egypt and is likely to have been associated with Her<br \/>\n&#8212; a sevenfold scorpion form (such as what accompanied Aset and baby Heru-sa-Aset as guardians)<br \/>\n&#8211; a woman with a scorpion on her head<br \/>\n&#8212; the scorpion is often shown without a stinger or pincers to indicate benevolence<br \/>\n&#8212; holding a <i>was<\/i> sceptre and ankh<br \/>\n&#8212; occasionally wearing a solar disk with cow horns, typically when linked to Aset<br \/>\n&#8211; a scorpion-bodied, human-headed hybrid (typically lacking stinger and pincers)<br \/>\n&#8211; a lioness-headed woman (when being an Eye of Ra, presumably) with a crocodile head protruding from the back of Her neck<br \/>\n&#8212; a lioness<br \/>\n&#8211; a rearing cobra (in funerary scenes)<\/p>\n<h3>relationships<\/h3>\n<p>&#8211; is equated with Aset (Isis) by many modern Kemetics (named as Serqet-Aset or Aset-Serqet, depending on which &#8220;role&#8221; She takes at that moment)<br \/>\n&#8212; is paired with Aset in antiquity as Nebt-het and Nit are paired in antiquity<br \/>\n&#8212; has been described as &#8220;Aset the Scorpion&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8212; has been described as Aset&#8217;s sister<br \/>\n&#8211; linked to Nebt-het and Nit, as well as Aset, as protectors of the canopic jars<br \/>\n&#8212; especially paired with Nit, as Aset and Nebt-het are paired as sisters<br \/>\n&#8212;&#8212; because Nebt-het and Nit are thought to be the same, Aset and Serqet can be considered the same<br \/>\n&#8211; linked to falcon-headed Qebesenuef, one of the Four Sons of Heru (Horus), Whose canopic jar She protects<br \/>\n&#8211; protector of Heru-sa-Aset (Horus the Younger), especially in His infancy<br \/>\n&#8211; mother or daughter of Ra<br \/>\n&#8211; wife of Heru-wer (Horus the Elder)<br \/>\n&#8211; mother of Heruakhety (Horus of the Horizon)<br \/>\n&#8211; mother of Nehebkau<\/p>\n<h3>epithets<\/h3>\n<p>&#8211; She Who Breathes (translation of name)<br \/>\n&#8212; She Who Tightens The Throat (alt. translation)<br \/>\n&#8212; She Who Makes The Throat Breathe (alt. translation)<br \/>\n&#8211; Mistress of the Beautiful House (referring to the mummification tent)<br \/>\n&#8211; Lady of the Beautiful Tent<br \/>\n&#8211; Mistress of Heaven<br \/>\n&#8211; Mistress of the Sacred Land (referring to the necropolis)<br \/>\n&#8211; Lady of All The Gods<br \/>\n&#8211; Serqet the Great<br \/>\n&#8211; The Divine Mother<\/p>\n<h3>notes<\/h3>\n<p>&#8211; Cult centers in the Delta and at Djeba and Per-Serqet (Pselkis, el Dakka).<br \/>\n&#8211; No formal dedicated temples.<br \/>\n&#8211; One of Her myths tells how She accompanied Aset (either pregnant or with infant Heru-sa-Aset) into a village, seeking shelter. Aset was turned away by a rich woman but welcomed in by a poor woman, and Serqet stung the rich woman&#8217;s son in irritation\/indignance over her refusal of the goddesses. Aset took pity on the boy and healed him.<br \/>\n&#8211; Serqet both protected Heru-sa-Aset as an infant and youth, and also stung Him when She got annoyed by His constant crying.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>(I am) Serqet, mistress of heaven and lady of all the gods.
